In 1998 our camper was a 23′ travel trailer that we pulled with a Jeep Grand Cherokee and it did ok but was not very stable on the interstate highways. When a truck would pass us the wind made the trailer and the Jeep sway to the point we felt it was unsafe. So we purchased a new 1999 Ford F-250 Diesel Super Cab long bed pickup truck. It was great, very stable on the highway and pulled the travel trailer like it wasn’t even attached.

Later that year we traded the travel trailer for a 5th wheel trailer and were very happy with that setup for years. Then in 2008 we purchased our current Excel 5th wheel that is much heavier so this year we decided to purchase a newer larger heavier truck. In 2020 we purchased a 2016 Ford F-350 Diesel Crew Cab pickup truck with dual rear wheels. As of this writing (July 2020) we have only taken two short trips with this new combination and it is nothing short of spectacular! What a difference in comfort, stability and power.

In September we have plans to pull our rig up to Grandfather Mountain Campground near Boone and Banner Elk North Carolina. The campground is at 3100 feet of elevation. I am looking forward to the trip as this new truck is equipped with a diesel exhaust brake and a 4:30 gear ratio drive gears. (4 wheel drive too) So, this trip is going to be a good test of the new trucks capabilities.

Our son recently moved to Utah and we are so excited at the thought of traveling out west and seeing the Rocky Mountains. I am thinking this new (to us) truck should be up to the task. So stay tuned and register on our site in order to ride along with us. Also leave us a comment with questions and tell us about your rig.
